Hello from Singapore!
Hello Everyone!
If you’re from Singapore, but are currently based overseas, thanks for chancing upon this page!
If you’re not from Singapore, and you’ve chanced upon this page. Here’s just a little snippet to share with you about one of our special days!
Tomorrow, 9 August, is Singapore’s National Day, where we celebrate our 56th year of independence as a country. Every year, we would celebrate it with a special parade performance by the armed forces, organisations, volunteers, youths and schools at the Singapore National Stadium. In recent years, we have switched over to have the parade at The Float@Marina Bay.
However, for 2021, the parade has been changed to a small scale ceremonial parade, with some contingents participating virtually, due to the Covid-19 restrictions. This will take place at the Marina Bay floating platform — The Float@Marina Bay. Here’s the main website: https://www.ndp.gov.sg
Here are some celebratory programmes that are available:
- While being overseas here in Japan, I watched this programme, as mentioned in this article (https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/six-hour-online-show-made-for-overseas-singaporeans-to-join-national-day-celebrations) The programme link is shared in the next point (3.).
- Singapore Global Network https://sgathome.singaporeglobalnetwork.gov.sg/home/
- This year’s official (National Day Parade) NDP theme song is titled, “The Road Ahead”: https://youtu.be/II_5jBaYmGQ
“The Road Ahead” is rather relevant to how we feel about the pandemic, surviving through it, and moving forward from it. I particular love how they have collaborated with various local illustrators and animators to create the music video! The animation includes snippets of our ancestors in history. It is definitely different from previous years.
Another favourite of mine would be this one; NDP 2019 Theme Song – Our Singapore: https://youtu.be/ChhhEaylgp0. This is sung by a choir made up of local singers, actors, sportsmen, and representatives from all walks of life.
Hope you’re having a safe and restful weekend!
